Background

Who are we?

Derby City Partnership is a voluntary alliance of organisations that work together to create a safe, healthy, prosperous and sustainable future for the people of Derby through shared vision and leadership.

Over 250 organisations are represented on Derby City Partnership groups and they represent

  • public services - for example the Council, NHS, police, fire and rescue
  • local businesses - for example our local ltd or plc companies and the Chamber of Commerce
  • community and voluntary groups - for example local not for profit companies, community or faith groups and charities

Since 1995, Derby City Partnership has been working to

  • develop closer and better working between Derby organisations
  • improve services and facilities through joint working
  • attract funding to Derby
  • make best use of all resources
  • bring the work of all partnerships in the city together

Since 2002, Derby City Partnership has been the Local Strategic Partnership for the city, focusing on Government requirements for partnerships, in particular drawing on the range of knowledge and skills across such a wide range of organisations, to narrow the gap between the different levels of opportunities for residents across the neighbourhoods of the city.

How does it work?

At the heart of Derby City Partnership is a Board who agree what we want to try and achieve as a Partnership and are responsible for creating and delivering our 25 year plan for the city, known as Derby's 2020 Vision.

To help the Board reach our vision, they are helped by an executive and five themed groups that cover:

  • Children and young people
  • Economic growth and infrastructure
  • Strong, safe and clean communities
  • Culture
  • Health

There is also a City Centre Management Group that promote the economic and commercial success of Derby's city centre and a Strategic Marketing Group who work to attract investment in Derby.

What is Derby's 2020 Vision?

By 2020 Derby will be a place where people of all ages and from all walks of life will feel they belong to Derby and that Derby offers them everything they need - for work, education, housing, leisure and a safe and healthy lifestyle.

Five key ambitions

Our partners have identified five key ambitions which will be essential to achieving our vision.  By 2020 Derby will be a:

  • City that builds a brighter future for Children and Young People who enjoy a healthy, safe and happy childhood, with the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
  • City of Growth, opportunity and innovation, a thriving and attractive city for all, with an environment that we will sustain and protect for future generations.
  • City with Stronger, Safer and Cleaner Communities where everyone feels safe and confident in their daily lives.
  • Significant Cultural City that inspires, engages and celebrates diversity.
  • Healthy City where people enjoy long, healthy and independent lives.
Five key principles

These are underpinned by principles which will guide our work in achieving these ambitions:

  • Ensuring that Derby has a positive reputation, image and profile with those who live, work, visit and invest in the city.
  • Sustainable development - improving the quality of life for everyone in Derby now in a way that does not compromise the quality of life for future generations
  • Making sure that everyone in the city has equal life chances no matter what their background or where they live.
  • Raising aspirations, ambition and achievement - for individuals, communities and the city.
  • Involving people in decision making - giving people who live and work in Derby the opportunity to influence decisions that affect them.
Our values

Our partners come together voluntarily and to help clarify relationships and decision making we have establishe a Partnership Agreement.  This helps us to improve relationships, communication and participation across the different groups and show our commitment to each other and our communities.
