History of success
Derby City Partnership has achieved a great deal since 1995 to make a difference in the city. We have been responsible for or contributed to:
- creating and delivering the 2020 Vision, Derby’s Sustainable Community Strategy which aims to make Derby a city for all ages by 2020
- involving over 250 different organisations in the Partnership from public services, businesses and community and voluntary groups to work together to improve services and facilities in Derby
- developing action plans to help us deliver our 2020 Vision based around our five themes of children and young people, growth, safer stronger and cleaner communities, culture and health
- deciding the targets in Derby’s Local Area Agreement that is one of the ways we can see we are delivering our 2020 Vision
- setting up a ‘State of the City Forum’ to give people in the wider partnership the chance to influence and debate some of the key topics that all have an impact on all the themes of Derby City Partnership
- Bringing Government and European funding into the city which has helped a wide range of projects from the development of Pride Park to the setting up of an award winning service that supports sex workers
- Establishing Marketing Derby and developing the Derby Does it campaign to raise the profile of the city
- trailblazing work to set up integrated teams in one area of the city to deliver services for children and young people
- a range of important new buildings across the city such as the Quad visual arts, film and media centre, YMCA campus learning and accommodation facility, Friar Gate Studios for small businesses from the creative industries
- setting up a task group to capitalise on the opportunities brought from the arrival of Westfield but also to consider its impact on the rest of the city centre
- piloting a new way of working with local people in five areas and then establishing Neighbourhood Forums and Boards in all 17 neighbourhoods in the city
- meeting Derby’s targets for people taking up services to help them quit smoking and then staying non-smokers for 52 weeks
- Setting up a Family Justice Centre, one of only two in the country

- Derby has more than 2,000 acres of open public space including the Normanton Arboretum, which was the first public park opened in the country
- Derby’s Silk Mill was one of the first factories in the world and is the start of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site
- Derby has excellent public services including a top rated Council and a brand new state of the art hospital, Derby Royal
- There are over 35,000 students in Derby and the University is one of only a few in the country to offer a January start date
